Osamu Akimoto's police comedy manga Kochikame is continuing the celebrations of its 40th anniversary of continuous publication in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump manga magazine, and the latest plans involve a series of crazy collaborations with other pop culture properties.
Coming on September 17, 2016, is the VS. Kochikame novelization anthology, a book that features new stories that mash-up Kochikame with 6 other series: slacker comedy series Mr. Osomatsu, fantasy adventure series Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, military-sports series Girls Und Panzer, male college cheerleading series Cheer Boys!!, high school mystery series Haruchika - Haruta & Chika, and after-dinner mystery series Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de.
VS. Kochikame will retail for 1600 yen ($15.12 US).
Kochikame will also be teaming up with Sanrio mascot character Hello Kitty for a line of character goods, including key-chains and T-shirts featuring Kitty sporting Kankichi "Ryo-san" Ryotsu's trademark uniform and unibrow. The line up also includes such items as tote bags, can badges, commemorative plates, and hand towels.
These goods will be available for purchase at the Kochikame exhibition that runs from September 14 through September 26, 2016, at the TAKASHIMAYA Nihonbashi Store in Nihonbashi, Chūō Ward, Tokyo, Japan. The goods will also be available via select Sanrio stores in Japan beginning September 14, 2016.
