"Prince Planet" Blasts Off with HD Remastered Japanese DVD Release

Planet Boy Papi, known in English as Prince Planet, is receiving an HD-remastered DVD release in Japan on July 29, 2016. Originally broadcast in Japan on Fuji TV from 1965 - 1966, Prince Planet is one of the earliest examples of black & white TV animation from the time period, and also one of the first to become a merchandising powerhouse.

The 6 DVD boxset includes all 52 episodes of the Prince Planet TV series, remastered from the original telecine elements. The story of Prince Planet involves a young member of the Universal Peace Corps who disguises himself as an Earthling boy in order to protect the planet from extraterrestrial threats. Prince Planet is directed by Sato Ōkura and features animation by Eiken (formerly Television Corporation of Japan).

The Prince Planet HD Remastered DVD Box retails for 25,000 yen ($238.54 US). All 52 episodes of the English language adaptation of Prince Planet is also available in the United States via Hulu for curious fans with access to a Hulu membership.
