Utsuro-bune Artwork Lands at "The Universe and Art" Exhibit

An upcoming exhibition at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo entitled "The Universe and Art: Princess Kaguya, Leonardo Da Vinci, Teamlab" will include original depictions of the Utsuro-bune, a "hollow ship" that allegedly washed ashore in Hitachi Province in 1803.

The boat was reportedly inhabited by a beautiful woman who couldn't speak Japanese. Some conspiracy theorists believe the legend describes a UFO encounter. In pop culture, the legend of the Utsuro-bune inspired the 3 episode "Sea Bishop" arc of Mononoke.

The Utsuro-bune pieces on display at the exhibit include the 1825 work "Legend of Hollow Ship from Hirokata Zuihitsu" and the 1844 work "Print reporting Utsuro-bune, Hollow Ship drifted to Kashima, Hitachi Province". Utsuro-bune inspired bowls will also be on sail at the museum's gift shop for 2916 yen ($27.48 US).

"The Universe and Art" exhibit runs from July 30, 2016 - January 09, 2017, at the Mori Art Museum venue, which is located on the 53rd floor of the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower building in Roppongi, Minato Ward, Tokyo, Japan.
