Bunka Tsushinsha reported on the top 10 Japanese films of the first half of 2016 (winter 2015 to June 2016). The top-grossing Japanese film during the period was the 20th Detective Conan feature film, Meitantei Conan: Jyunkoku no Nightmare/Detective Conan: Pure Black Nightmare that earned the record-breaking 6.31 billion yen. It also became the most successful film in the 20-year-old anime franchise, surpassing the previous record of 4.48 billion yen marked by the 19th film Sunflowers of Inferno released in April 2015. The 20 Detective Conan films, whose history started with The Time-Bombed Skyscraper in 1997, has earned over 60 billion yen in total at the domestic market.
