AoOni ("Blue Demon"), a freeware horror game for PC developed by noprops, is being adapted into a short-form TV anime, running on Crunchyroll this fall, and then a less goofy, scarier movie, scheduled for 2017. A first preview for the latter debuted today. Toshiro Hamamura, a CG animator on Fate/stay night [Unlimited Bladeworks] and Prisma Illya, is chief director on the Studio DEEN production.
In the original Ao Oni game, a group of four friends investigate an abandoned, European-style mansion only to be pursued by a strange and terrifying creature. By solving puzzles, players can save their friends and escape the mansion.
Sure to confuse, both the TV anime and movie are called AoOni The Animation in Japan, but the horror movie writes its title in Kanji and English letters versus the TV comedy's Hiragana.
