Fanart Friday returns, and, well... this is it. Last week, I let all of you say goodbye, but this week it's my turn. Obviously, I'm going to talk more about it in the column proper, but I want to start by giving a big, real thank-you to everyone who's been involved with Fanart Friday over the past five years. I've said it several times over the past months leading up to this final installment, but I mean it every single time.
For a column I started on a whim, I'm honestly kind of surprised that it lasted this long. There have been plenty of ups and downs, lots of things to learn when it comes to running a column that lives and dies on fan creations and the tangled web they exist in, and it all added up to one of the most fun, satisfying learning experiences I've ever had. Now... let's get started.

So here we are, right at the end, and I kind of keep hesitating.

I know what I want to say--I've thought about it every day for the last year--but right now I just want to look back at every installment of this column and see what it's become.

I'm not acting like writing Fanart Friday is crushing labor--it used to take me about five or six hours to prep and write this column, and now I can do it in half that. But still... I've spent so much time here every week, not only posting but coming back and checking comments, that I see what this has meant to me.

Yeah, there's a bit of concern in the back of my mind that anything I do from now on won't cast a shadow as strong as what I'm already known for...

...but that's why you look to the future, you have hope and you work hard for what you want.

After all, if you're hungry, you can't complain about a full plate... or the scraps you get on the way.

The internet is a big place, and the world is a bigger place--get out there, share the things you love with people.

Better yet, make something. Don't let anyone tell you you're not good enough or you're not talented enough. You're not making something for them, you're making it for you... and if anyone else likes it along the way, that's even better.
by ネギ塩力ノレビ
Share it with the people you love most...
by 遠野キワ
...and maybe with the people you don't love all that much, too.

They say you gotta love yourself before you can love somebody else, and the same goes for art. You gotta love the things you make before anyone else loves them, too. This goes for art, writing, cosplay, music... it doesn't matter. Get out there and make something... and have fun doing it.
And, well... that's it! I've said it a bunch of times, but it's been an awesome five years, and I am eternally grateful to every single person who's been involved with Fanart Friday from September 23, 2011 all the way to now.
So what's next on the agenda for me? A lot of things.
A con.
Something very important that I can't exactly talk about in detail just yet (but stay tuned to Site News!).
A comic. I just say it super bluntly, but this is something I've wanted to do since I was twelve years old and now it's right here, slowly being completed day by day with a team I wouldn't trade for the world.
A box full of Umaru pillows that I need to creatively destroy.
A Twitch channel and a Facebook group that have really taken over as my new "I have to make these strong" projects.
I'm not saying goodbye to all of you, obviously. But I'm saying goodbye to five years of hard work, of some of the most fun I've had writing for Crunchyroll News (and definitely not the last thing I'm doing for News), and for... damn. For you guys, all of you. I guess you're fans of Fanart Friday, and that is eternally unexpected and appreciated, but I always just talked to you like you were like me, people who loved fanart, and art in general. Let's keep that going.
Thanks again for coming by to send off Fanart Friday. Have a great weekend, and just make sure to turn the lights out when you leave.
