"Haruchika" Live-Action Film Tells Original Story not Covered in the Novel

The official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Sei Hatsuno's Haruchika (Haruta & Chika) mystery novel series today posted a 30-second unembeddable teaser introducing its two main cast, 19-year-old Shori Sato (boy idol group Sexy Zone member) as Haruta Kamijo and 17-year-old Kanna Hashimoto (girl idol group Rev. from DVLmember) as Chika Homura. This is the first starring role for Sato, and the second for Hashimoto following Sailor Suit and Machine Gun -Graduation- released in March 2016.

According to the comment posted on the site, the original novel author Hatsuno asked the director Ichii when they met for the first time, "You can do whatever you want if Haruta, Chika, and Kusakabe-sensei are still in the film. But Instead, please show me and the fans of the novel series a totally new story that fits the length of a feature film." He also confirms the film will tell Chika's breakdown and recovery that were not covered in the novel story. Judging from the teaser, the film doesn't include much or any mystery-

solving elements and more focuses on a friendship-turns-to-love relationship between Haruka and Chika.

The tagline is written as "This is not love, but more special than a friend."

It is also confirmed 32-year-old Keisuke Koide (Masumi Okuyama in Nodame Cantabile) is cast as Shinjiro

Kusakabe, the music club's supervising teacher. The Masahide Ichii (Hakoiri Musuko no Koi)-directed film

is set to be released in Japan on March 4, 2017.
