It has been confirmed that 42-year-old voice actor Daisuke Sakaguchi has made a voice appearance as Near, one of the original successors to L, in the ongoing three-part web drama series Death Note New Generation. He is best known as Üso Ewin in Mobile Suit Victory Gundam (1993-1994) and Shinpachi Shimura in Gintama (2006-). The character was previously voiced by Noriko Hidaka in the 2006-2007 TV anime adaptation. Sakaguchi's Near appeared in a phone conversation in the second episode "Chapter Ryuzaki: Last Wishes."

The prequel web drama focuses on the past of the three new main characters from the upcoming feature
film Death Note Light up the NEW world. The second episode posted last Friday explains why Ryuzaki
(Sousuke Ikematsu), L's righteous successor, decided to join the investigation of the new Death Note case.
The final third episode "Chpater Shion: Fanaticism" is already available from today in Japan

The 80-second special PV below features the theme song for the web drama series, "Fighter" sung by Namie
Amuro, which is also used as an insert song in the feature film.
The film, set 10 years after the first two live-action films in 2006, will be released in Japan on October 29.
