According to the newest Oricon sales report, the 12th tankobon volume of Chica Umino's Sangatsu no Lion/March comes in like a lion manga series, released in Japan on September 29, sold 396,000 copies in its first week, becoming the top-selling manga of the week ended October 2. The shogi-themed manga has been serialized in Hakusensha's Young Animal since 2007, and its TV anime and live-action adaptation project was announced in September 2015.
The TV anime adaptation is directed by Akiyuki Shinbo (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Puella Magi Madoka Magica), with Shaft (Monogatari series, Nisekoi) working on anime production. In Japan, it will be broadcasted on NHK General TV, the main channel of Japan's national public broadcasting station viewed by 40 million households. It will also premiere on Crunchyroll at 10:00AM PDT on October 8 to members in North America, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Ireland.
