She's turning 25 next year, and she doesn't look a day over 14. Himeko Nonohara, the main character of the manga and anime series Hime-chan's Ribbon, is a magical girl who may not get as much attention as Sailor Moon or Madoka, but she has a fair share of fans both in Japan and abroad. And in March, they can pick up a brand new DVD Memorial Box containing the entire series.
Based on the manga of the same name, Hime-chan's Ribbon ran from October of 1992 to December of 1993. The tomboyish Hime-chan meets her mirror image, a princess named Erika from an alternate dimension, who presents Hime-chan with a magical red ribbon of her own creation. Hime-chan has one year to test how well the ribbon works, and thus whether Erika deserves to become a princess. The ribbon allows her to take the form of any other person on Earth for an hour -- but failing to turn back before the hour is up, or telling the secret of the ribbon, will have disastrous consequences.
Fans of the soon-to-be-separated SMAP may be familiar with the show via the group's connections, having recorded the opening theme and three different ending themes.
The 8-disc set will contain all 61 episodes and feature a cover drawn by the original manga creator, Megumi Mizusawa. It'll run you about 28,000 yen.
The Hime-chan's Ribbon Memorial DVD Box goes on sale March 24, 2017.
