Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura is no stranger to American films -- he directed both 2008's Midnight Meat Train and 2012's No One Lives. Now he's returning to this side of the Pacific to helm the action-thriller Doorman.
Penned by short film writers Lior Chefetz and Joe Swanson, Doorman follows a woman recently returned from combat who befriends a New York family, then defends them when they are set upon by a gang of thieves.
Harry Winer of Smash Media and Jason Moring of Double Dutch International will be producing. In Moring's words: "Ryuhei is such an established filmmaker in Asia, we are honored to have him bring his extraordinary vision on this side of the Pacific, for this action packed thriller."
Anime fans will be familiar with Kitamura for his work on the recent Lupin III live action film starring Shun Oguri as the eponymous gentleman thief.
Doorman will be sold at American Film Market by DDI; no further information on pre-production is available at this time.
