Bandai today announced that Eiga Tamagotchi Himitsu no Otodoke Dai Sakusen! (Movie Tamagotchi Big Secret Delivery Operation!), a short anime film to celebrate its internationally popular digital pet game Tamagotchi's 20th anniversary, will be released in Japan in the Golden Week holiday period (from the end of April to early May) in 2017. This is the first Tamagotchi anime film in nine years since Tamagotchi Uchuichi Happy na Monogatari!? released in December 2008. It will be screened with the Kamisama Minarai: Himitsu no Cocotama franchise's first feature film, also based on Bandai's house doll toy line.
OLM's Jouji Shimura, who previously worked on the Tamagotchi TV anime series from 2009 to 2015, is attached direct on a screenplay by Hiroshi Yamaguchi (World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman, Sky Wizards Academy). Popular anime voice actress Rie Kugimiya (Kagura in Gintama, Iori Minase in The Idolm@ster), who has voiced the protagonist character Mametchi in the TV anime
series, is confirmed to reprise the role.
