A new trailer is now available online for Atom the Beginning, an upcoming TV anime based on the prequel manga that tells the story of the events leading up to the creation of the titular character of Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy. The trailer features the opening theme for the series, "Kaidoku Funō" ("Indecipherable"), which is performed by After the Rain.
Set in the near future some five years after a mysterious calamity has devastated Japan, Atom the Beginning tells the story of Umataro Tenma and Hiroshi Ochanomizu (the creators of Astro Boy) as they work as research students at Nerima University studying robotics engineering. Together they develop a prototype robot called A106 that is designed with autonomous learning functions.
The Atom the Beginning TV anime is directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro and Tatsuo Satō and features animation by OLM, Inc., Production I.G, and Signal.MD. The series begins broadcasting on the NHK network beginning on April 15, 2017, and it will also be digitally distributed in Japan by Amazon Prime.
