After closing out fiscals years on March 31st, a couple of companies in the anime business reported their results last week, with some notable gains recorded. Naming the Fate series, Monogatari, iDolM@ster, Black Bulter, Gintama, Durarara, Deven Deadly Sins and Naruto among their successful titles, Sony Music Entertainment Japan's reported a 91% increase in profits, or in raw numbers, ¥7,391,000,000, which is about $73 million. Previous earnings for the same period last year, for comparison, were $38 million.
Meanwhile, Gonzo reported a 20.1% increase in sales over the last year (in real numbers, ¥1,458,000,000, or $14.4 million), noting that this is their sixth consequetive report of operating profit. Their recent anime projects have included Seiyu’s Life! and Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue.
