The current generation of consoles is all about getting remakes and remasters of games from the not-so-distant past, so naturally fans of the Souls series are excited at the prospect of some return trips to the original games. Series mastermind Hidetaka Miyazaki recently spoke to GameSpot to clarify past comments regarding the potential for a Demon's Souls remake, and he reiterated that it could happen… just not with From Software's involvement.
It all comes down to what the current IP holders want to do with the games. "It seems like there was a misunderstanding in a previous interview in relation to a remake or a remastering of the game, so let me reiterate here," Miyazaki said. "The Dark Souls series is Bandai Namco Entertainment's IP, and Demon's Souls and Bloodborne is Sony Interactive Entertainment's IP. Hence, the decision to do a remake or remastering is under their jurisdiction."
In other words, while Miyazaki and the folks at Souls series developer From Software aren't exactly keen on remaking Demon's Souls themselves, the director said, "it could happen through another developer."
You can read more from Miyazaki in GameSpot's full interview, and keep on speculating as to what his team has coming with the new IP that's in the works at From Software.
