FEATURE: Fanart Friday - Back to School, Graduating Year Edition

Fanart Friday returns, and for real, new high school seniors: go to Sober Grad Night. You have all of college and the rest of your adult life to learn the true meaning of "hangover." Last week, we finished a four-week look back at the last four years of Fanart Friday, but this week we're starting the final four with our last BACK TO SCHOOL EDITION!

I used it on the first one, I'm damn sure using it this time too

As you know, plenty of anime take place at school--you'll see magic high schools, martial arts high schools, high schools that teach exorcists to fight demons, high schools full of the strongest delinquents, and every now and then you'll see a plain old regular-ass high school, just for variety. Now, bell's ringing--let's get started!

So I want to look back on the last five years of Fanart Friday kinda like the way a senior in high school looks back on their last four years. Or three, if we're in Japan, but I'm not, so four it is. You met all kinds of fun weirdos like the ones in Nichijou...

ffgj

by 結城辰也

...and you may have even joined a club or two. Hopefully not one like GJ Club's "Amusement Club," which I've already ranted about here.

ffbambooblade

by 火星通信

Maybe you took up a sport, like kendo! Bamboo Blade's Taka is just trying to go full Saber here, you won't actually get to do that in a kendo class.

fffmp

by 蒼々@お仕事募集中

Maybe you got someone to regularly walk you home, or to school, or both! Full Metal Panic teased this kind of resolution every now and then but never really pulled the trigger (no pun intended).

ffkis

by 上山道郎

Maybe that someone was just a group of people you hung out with, who dragged you into their clubs! Anybody have a musical awakening in high school like in Kids on the Slope?

ffpoke

by ultmte READER SUBMISSION!

In the end, all distractions aside, you have to set some time for lessons, and ultmte has the most important Pokemon lesson of all on the board: ATTACK TYPES!

ffsnafu

by 刃天

Also whether your high school romantic life was a total SNAFU or not...

fforeshura

by コ゛りぼて

...or you ran into someone really scary like Oreshura's Masuzu...

ffumaru

by わわこ

...or you ran into somebody who's leading a double life that puts the goddamn Batman to shame...

ffdfrag

by oda

...or you get roped into some messed up "Game Creation Club," yeah... maybe high school romance is just too dangerous for some people. Also, yes, I watched the first couple episodes of D-FRAG! and thought they were pretty okay.

fftjtg

by ショウ。@マイピク募集中

Y'know what, love is in the air in high school, but y'know what's more fun? MARTIAL ARTS! Go start something like Tenjho Tenge's Juuken Club and run yourself ragged!

ffhq

by m@オレサマヨウスケマルカジリ

If, y'know, getting hit isn't quite your style, you can always go join a sports team and aim to be the ace--Haikyu!! is all about starting from the bottom and working your way up!

ffsilverspoon

by ハラダミユキ

When all's said and done, though, you may need to just step outside and get some fresh air. Take a walk, reflect on your goals, maybe watch some Silver Spoon afterward while you reflect on your goals.

fftrigger

by AaronAzama READER SUBMISSION!

And just remember all the crazy-ass people you ran into since day one. AaronAzama has given us all of Trigger's (high school-age) characters in one shot!

ffrokudenashi

by 北川

So whether life just beats you down and you have to fight your way through every step it gives you...

fffw

by びび

...or you already know what you want to do and are starting the long, hard road to get there...

ffschoollive

by 冬木

...when school (or work) feels like a literal life-or-death struggle and you're working hard...

fftonarino

by sin3c12

...or hardly working...

ffcromartie

by 桃代 猫(ももしろ まお)

...or literally just coasting by...

ffteachers

by Keiryuu Seo

...respect your teachers, and have some hustle! You survived life's tutorial mode--now, real life is ready and waiting!

And speaking of having hustle...

ffcelebistar

by celebistar READER SUBMISSION!

-Then, on SEPTEMBER 9th, we're going to (briefly) cover some topics we missed over the last five years: my REGRETS list! What are the Fanart Fridays that should have been? 2 LEFT!

-On SEPTEMBER 16th, I'm turning to all the guest writers, readers who've submitted art, and just plain fans of Fanart Friday for YOUR GOODBYES! 1 LEFT!
