VAP has confirmed that a Blu-ray box containing the three anime adaptations of Haruka Takachiho's science fiction light novel series Crusher Joe is set for a release on December 14, 2016. The two-hour feature film released in March 1983 and directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the original illustrator for the novels, will be remastered in 4K format, while the two OVAs in 1989, "The Ice Prison" and "The Ultimate Weapon: Ash," will be in 2K format.
The 246-minute box will be offered in two editions, the 27,000 yen (260 US dollars) first press limited edition and 19,440 yen (187 US dollars) regular edition with a booklet. The former will include a newly-filmed talk session by Takachiho, Yasuhiko, Taku Takemura (the voice actor of Joe) and Run Sasaki (the main heroine Alfin), and a 100-page production material collection book and the booklet. The box cover illustration will be newly drawn.
Meanwhile, the novel series' latest 13th volume "Gabriel's Hunting Dog" will be published in Japan this
Thursday. The original edition of the first volume "Crisis on Solidarity Planet Pizanne" was released in 1977.
