Professional voice actors and real life husband-and-wife couple Koichi Yamadera and Rie Tanaka are joining the cast of The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., an ongoing TV anime adaptation based on the humorous psychic gag manga by Shūichi Asō.
Koichi Yamadera will play Saiki Kumagorou, Kusou's grandfather. Described as being a "completely tsundere grandpa", Kumagorou is known for passionate mood swings despite his advanced age. Kumagorou is unaware of his grandson's psychic powers.
Rie Tanaka will play Saiki Kumi, Kusou's grandmother. Described as being a "high energy grandma", Kumi has a deceptively youthful appearance and personality, to the point where she sometimes talks using "gyaru" lingo. Like her husband Kumagorou, she is unaware of Kusou's psychic abilities.
The original The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. manga is serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump manga magazine. The TV anime adaptation is directed by Hiroaki Sakurai and features animation by J.C. Staff and EGG FIRM. Currently airing on TV Tokyo, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is also being simulcast by Funimation, who describe the series as follows:
"Saiki Kusuo is a typical 16-year-old high school student… except he has psychic powers. He can use them to get whatever he wants, but he also knows everything that people are thinking. Everything. No surprises, no secrets, no normal human experiences. He’s kept his powers in check since childhood, but with the temptations of high school now on his mind, he’s bending the rules—and spoons."
