Golden Autumn Comic Exhibition in Beijing Displays Anime Knockoffs

Viva Beijing R&F Plaza is currently running a display of large anime figures as part of their Golden Autumn Comic Exhibition, running until November 16. The exhibition contains life-sized painted statues of characters from Naruto, One Piece, Attack on Titan, and more popular shows.

But before you go scraping your bank account for a plane ticket to China, you might want a look at how they turned out.

Unsurprisingly, visitors are underwhelmed at best. One said they wouldn't pay one jiao ($0.02 USD) to come see it. Another said that just looking at Naruto's face made anger well up inside them.

The comments didn't end there. Many had trouble figuring out who certain characters were even supposed to be, with one adding that they looked as though they were made by a grade-schooler.

Many have suspected that the low quality means there's some copright infringement going on at this event... and apparently that is, in fact, the case. Pierrot China, the Chinese copyright holder for Naruto, has said that the exhibition does not have the right to display any likenesses from the show.

Which would explain our friend Baruto up there.
