It is confirmed today that Tokyo-based anime production company Studio Fantasia received an order for the commencement of bankruptcy proceedings from the Tokyo District Court on November 16. The company already stopped business by this August and its official website (http://ift.tt/2gpGlY2) was deleted. While its official Twitter is still online, there has been no posts since September 2014. According to Tokyo Shoko Research, its total indebtedness is about 190 million yen (1.684 million US dollars) to 50 creditors.
Studio Fantasia was founded with 3 million yen in capital in October 1983. While doing subcontract works for Madhouse, Gainax, Studio Ghibli, and other major production companies, it also produced its own anime titles, such as AIKa (1997-1999), Najica Blitz Tactics (2001), Stratos 4 (2003), and Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry (2006). However, its financing was recently getting worse due to a drop in orders. The company had tried to maintain its cash position by downsizing business operations.
