Fans of the burgeoning market for classic video game soundtracks on vinyl can look forward to another premium release from the very excellent Brave Wave Productions. Their Generation Series began with Street Fighter II The Definitive Soundtrack, followed by Shovel Knight, and next up for the line is the original NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy.
Ninja Gaiden The Definitive Soundtrack will be released in two volumes, both of which have Brave Wave working closely with Koei Tecmo and the original composers. Volume 1 includes the soundtracks for the first NES Ninja Gaiden game and the arcade edition. Volume 2 covers Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom.
Brave Wave will be recording the soundtracks digitally from the original hardware before cleaning up and remastering them for the most pristine sound. Ninja Gaiden lead composer Keiji Yamagishi is spearheading supervision, with the assistance of Ninja Gaiden II main composer Ryuichi Nitta and Ninja Gaiden III main composer Kaori Nakabai.
In addition to the soundtracks themselves, the CD and vinyl versions will feature archival art, composer interviews, and essays by game historian Ray Barnholt. There's currently no release date, but you can sign up on the website to be notified of future updates.
