Witness Skull Kid's Origins in "Majora's Mask" Fan Film

Whether you came to Majora's Mask as a Zelda fan or because you wanted to find out who Ben was and why he drowned, there's no denying it's one of the single creepiest games of the franchise. And Ember Lab has taken it upon themselves to explore the origin of the little Skull Kid who met with a terrible fate and kicked off the horrors of the game.

"Terrible Fate," directed by Mike Grier, is a four-minute peek into the one little mistake that changed history. Featuring the Mask Seller (voiced by Masashi Odate), the fairies Tatl and Tael, and the ill-fated Skull Kid himself, it's Ember Lab's vision of how the world of The Legend of Zelda could be realized on film. It's presented as "a gift to the fans," but the gifts don't end there.

Sound designer and composer Theophany, who has collaborated with Ember Lab before, created the soundtrack for the short film. The music presented is a small taste of "Time's End II," a follow-up to Theophany's 2012 Majora's Mask remix album. A few tracks are currently available to listen to on the project's official site, with the full album scheduled to drop on December 21.
